Cookie Policy

Effective Date: March 4, 2026 · Last Updated: March 4, 2026

1. What Are Cookies

Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device (computer, tablet, or mobile phone) when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work efficiently, provide a better user experience, and supply information to site owners.

In addition to cookies, we may use similar technologies such as local storage, session storage, and web beacons (also known as pixel tags or clear GIFs). Throughout this policy, we use the term "cookies" broadly to refer to all of these technologies unless otherwise specified.

Cookies can be "first-party" (set by the website you are visiting) or "third-party" (set by a domain other than the website you are visiting). They can also be "session" cookies (deleted when you close your browser) or "persistent" cookies (remain on your device for a set period or until you delete them).

2. How We Use Cookies

Rankrize ("we," "us," or "our") uses cookies on rankrize.io and the Rankrize platform (collectively, the "Service") for the purposes described below. We categorize cookies into four types based on their function.

2.1 Essential / Strictly Necessary Cookies

These cookies are required for the Service to function and cannot be switched off. They are typically set in response to actions you take, such as logging in, setting privacy preferences, or filling in forms. Without these cookies, certain parts of the Service — including authentication and account access — will not work.

  • Authentication session cookies — maintain your logged-in state so you do not need to re-enter credentials on every page.
  • Security cookies — help detect and prevent unauthorized access, cross-site request forgery (CSRF) attacks, and other malicious activity.
  • Infrastructure cookies — required by our backend platform (Convex) to manage real-time connections and session integrity.

2.2 Functional Cookies

Functional cookies enable enhanced features and personalization. They may be set by us or by third-party providers whose services we have integrated into our pages. If you do not allow these cookies, some or all of these features may not function properly.

  • User preferences — remember settings such as your preferred language, dashboard layout, or interface choices.
  • Onboarding state — track your progress through the onboarding wizard so you can resume where you left off.

2.3 Analytics & Performance Cookies

Analytics cookies help us understand how visitors interact with the Service by collecting and reporting information anonymously. This data allows us to improve performance, identify popular features, and diagnose technical issues.

Current status: We use PostHog for product analytics and session replay in the Rankrize app. We only enable analytics cookies after consent where required by law, and we apply masking/blocking rules to sensitive areas (for example, authentication, credentials, and secret fields).

2.4 Advertising & Marketing Cookies

We do not currently use any advertising, marketing, or retargeting cookies. We do not serve targeted ads, and we do not share your data with advertising networks. If this changes in the future, we will update this policy and seek your consent before deploying any such cookies.

3. Cookie Details

The table below lists the specific cookies currently set by the Service. As we evolve the platform, this list may be updated.

Note: Cookie names and behaviors may vary slightly depending on your browser, device, and our infrastructure updates. The table above reflects cookies as of the effective date of this policy.

4. Third-Party Cookies

When we integrate third-party services (such as analytics providers), those providers may set their own cookies on your device. These third-party cookies are governed by the respective provider's privacy and cookie policies, not ours. We do not control how third-party cookies are used.

As of the effective date of this policy, we currently integrate PostHog for product analytics and session replay. We may add additional analytics providers in the future. For any new third-party non-essential cookies, we will:

  • Update this Cookie Policy to list the new cookies.
  • Obtain your consent before setting non-essential third-party cookies, where required by applicable law.
  • Provide links to the relevant third-party privacy policies so you can review their data practices.

5. How to Control Cookies

You have the right to decide whether to accept or reject cookies. You can exercise your cookie preferences in the following ways:

5.1 Browser Settings

Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. You can typically configure your browser to block all cookies, accept all cookies, or notify you when a cookie is being set so you can decide whether to accept it. The method for doing so varies by browser; please consult your browser's help documentation for instructions.

Below are links to cookie management instructions for major browsers:

5.2 Impact of Disabling Cookies

Please be aware that if you disable or block essential cookies, certain core features of the Service will not function. Specifically, you will be unable to log in, maintain an authenticated session, or use any feature that requires account access. We strongly recommend keeping essential cookies enabled to ensure the Service works as intended.

Disabling non-essential cookies (functional, analytics) may degrade your experience — for example, preferences may not be remembered — but will not prevent you from accessing the Service.

6. Do Not Track

Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" (DNT) setting that sends a signal to websites requesting that your browsing activity not be tracked. There is currently no universally accepted standard for how websites should respond to DNT signals.

Where technically feasible, we honor DNT signals by refraining from setting non-essential cookies when a DNT header is detected. Because we currently use PostHog analytics cookies (with consent where required), DNT may reduce or disable analytics collection in supported contexts.

7. GDPR & Cookie Consent

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the ePrivacy Directive, and similar laws in other jurisdictions, we are required to obtain your informed consent before placing non-essential cookies on your device.

Essential cookies do not require consent, as they are strictly necessary for the Service to operate. For all other categories of cookies (functional, analytics, and any future marketing cookies), we will:

  • Present a clear cookie consent mechanism (such as a cookie banner) when you first visit the Service, giving you the choice to accept or decline each category of non-essential cookies.
  • Not set any non-essential cookies until you have provided affirmative consent.
  • Allow you to withdraw your consent at any time by adjusting your cookie preferences through the consent mechanism or by clearing cookies via your browser settings.
  • Record your consent choices so they are respected on subsequent visits.

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), California residents have additional rights regarding the collection and sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information collected through cookies. For more information about your California privacy rights, please refer to our Privacy Policy.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in technology, legislation, our business operations, or the cookies we use. When we make material changes, we will:

  • Update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page.
  • Where significant changes are made (for example, introducing a new category of cookies), notify you through a prominent notice on the Service or via email.
  • Seek renewed consent for any new non-essential cookies where required by applicable law.

We encourage you to review this Cookie Policy periodically to stay informed about how we use cookies.
